Our Story: The Journey of Tribal Tapestry

The Genesis

Our story is deeply personal and begins with Jon James Olomo, who is also known to many through social media as Omowale, meaning 'the child has returned home' in Yoruba. This name not only symbolizes Jon's personal journey of discovery and connection with his roots but also embodies the mission of Tribal Tapestry. Inspired by Jon’s transformative experiences, Tribal Tapestry guides individuals on their journeys to discover and reclaim their ancestral heritage.

Jon’s quest began with several DNA tests. Like many African Americans, a single test did not reveal the full story of his African roots, inspiring the creation of Tribal Tapestry. We've partnered with leading scientific labs to offer a comprehensive African DNA panel, designed to uncover deeper connections and broader ancestral links.

Unique Partnerships and Cultural Connections

In founding Tribal Tapestry, Jon, or Omowale as he is known online, brought together top experts in genetics and historical research. Our approach combines detailed DNA analysis with expert guidance in genealogical research, helping clients trace their family trees back through generations. During his visit to Nigeria, Jon was warmly embraced by the local community and a respected Yoruba king, who accepted him as a son of the kingdom. This profound acceptance was further solidified when the Aare Ona Kankafo, a high-ranking Yoruba chieftain, bestowed upon him the name Omowale, marking his symbolic return to his roots.

Our partnership with HRH the Erelu Kuti IV of Lagos, Nigeria (Queen Mother, also known as Woman King), and the Nigerian Cultural Center enhances our ability to interpret these DNA findings, ensuring that each name and face from the past is honored and understood.

Overcoming Historical Barriers

The transatlantic slave trade erected a formidable barrier in the family histories of many African Americans. Tribal Tapestry is dedicated to helping our clients overcome this 'brick wall.' While we do not provide genealogical records directly, we assist our clients in utilizing other software to build their family trees. Additionally, we offer DNA family matching services and assistance with obtaining dual citizenship in select African nations. This suite of services not only reconnects individuals with their ancestral lands but also facilitates a profound return to their cultural heritage.
